We left the Santa Cruz on the 3rd December 2023 and headed south west towards the Carribean. I provisioned the boat for 6 weeks at sea. Not an easy task, but in the end we did ok.
The crossing took 28 days, it was magical. It was scary because this would the longest and possibly the most dangerous. But, what we learnt before we left was that it is a tested route that time of the year. It was our first time crossing, but we met many folk who had done it several times. So, logic says it can obviously be done. But that had not abated our fears, and as scared as we were, we were also ready to face it, be one with it and let mother nature help or hinder us.
The vastness of the ocean has a likeness to our expanding minds. We settle into a routine quickly. Finn and I did the night shifts, 3 hours on and off. Archie did sunrise and sunset. Everyone cooked, cleaned and entertained. We had no rough weather which we are very thankful for. We learned a lot more about how Tyrian handles herself in downwind sailing, used our spinnaker with fear, enjoyed the cruise sail and tried goose winging.
Oh and we continued Archie’s home-schooling. Christmas was wonderful, we had gifts and I made us a feast.
The smelled of Granada came first before we saw her. Lush green vegetation! We enjoyed the passage, but were ready to see land again.
Hugs to all!
