North West Spain was our first taste of semi warm sea’s and a compulsory siesta, as all businesses closed for the hottest time of the day. Between 12pm and 4pm only crazy tourists were out, like us! Going shopping was a good long trek through many interesting areas. No orca’s were seen, but we had our sand bags and pots ready once we realised we were sailing in their preferred playground. We subsequently met a fella in La Gomera that’s boat was bumped around whilst leaving the Gibraltar strait. Its everything you imagined it would be, beyond scary and hard to explain.
Madeira is a very welcoming Island, the north west coast has beautiful lush forests and the east is dry and arid. We visited Quinta de Lorde, Machico, Calhetta and Funchal. All interesting and varied with a Portuguese Island twist. In Calhetta we met an especially lovely Danish family and Archie made his first set of pals.
lots of love Zee
